Pearl: Most patients with a history of penicillin allergy will tolerate penicillins and cephalosporins. Penicillin allergy testing should be done to assess if they have a penicillin allergy, and in low-risk patients (patients who do not recall the allergy or had a maculopapular rash), consideration for oral rechallenge in a controlled setting may be an option.
