Appropriate Use of CT in the Emergency Department

The availability and capabilities of CT have grown considerably in recent years, making it a diagnostic tool that is commonly used—and sometimes overused. The authors discuss the problem of overuse and review the published criteria and technologic options, such as automated CDS systems, that can guide the emergency physician in the appropriate use of CT. The highly contested CMS OP-15 efficiency measure is also considered
