Emergent Management of Constipation in Cancer Patients

Constipation affects more than half of cancer patients with advanced disease and is a common reason for these patients to present to the ED. The authors describe a case of life-threatening constipation in an oncology patient who is receiving systemic therapy; they also review causes and treatment options and offer an algorithm for managing this frequent source of morbidity.
