Women are almost twice as likely as men to suffer moderate or severe bleeding when treated with fibrinolysis for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), according to researchers from the Duke Clinical Research Institute, Durham, North Carolina; the University Hospital, Leuven, Belgium; the New York University, New York, New York; the Auckland City Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand; and the Scripps Clinic, San Diego, California.
