Alcohol Awareness Month Is Here

"Help for Today. Hope for Tomorrow." is designed to draw attention to the pervasive impact alcohol has on young people, their friends and families, and the community.

Alcohol is the number one drug of choice for young Americans and is more likely to kill them than are all illegal drugs combined, according to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD). This year’s awareness theme—Help for Today. Hope for Tomorrow.—is designed to draw attention to the “pervasive impact” alcohol has on young people, their friends and families, and the community.

The April 2015 Toolkit from the HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and the NCADD offers strategies for spreading the word about alcohol abuse prevention (http://www.healthfinder.gov/NHO/APRILtoolkit.aspx). In addition to handouts, suggested tweets, e-cards, and other ways to educate patients, personal health tools, such as the Cocktail Content Calculator and Drink Size Calculator, may prove to be helpful.
