Cancer of the brain and central nervous system impacts patients differently from other cancers. This presentation by Peter Silberstein, MD, from the 2014 AVAHO Meeting in Portland, Oregon, explains the effects of the blood/brain barrier on chemotherapy.

“More than 50% of all intracranial tumors in adults are brain metastasis,” Silberstein said. “Maybe the brain is a sanctuary in that some of our therapies are not getting through the blood/brain barrier. Chemotherapies which may be effective… are not getting into the brain.”
