Federal Web Site Offers Health Data

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has launched a Web site for providers and consumers that describes the federal initiative to bring transparency to health care.

The site includes a link to Hospital Compare (with quality data on more than 4,000 hospitals), and links to sites that list Medicare payments for 30 common procedures. It also gives information on health information technology standards. The site is at www.hhs.gov/transparency
