Editorial: New Screening Option: Digital Breast Tomosynthesis


 

DBT is an exciting new technology that is in its infancy. Its optimal utility for screening and diagnostic breast imaging will require careful clinical studies and likely large randomized trials similar to those performed for digital mammography before its proper role is established.

Dr. Helvie is professor of radiology and division director of breast imaging at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He disclosed having received an institutional research grant from GE Healthcare and said he is a nonpaid consultant to the company.
