Impaired Dopaminergic Neurotransmission Is Observed in Dystonia Gene Carriers


 

Increased synaptic dopamine levels and dysfunction or loss of D2-bearing neurons are associated with reduced D2 receptor availability in dystonia gene carriers. This may represent a permissive factor for primary dystonia.
