Socioeconomic status key factor in CPAP adherence in older adults
Key clinical point: Comorbidities and lower socioeconomic status were associated with had less adherence to continuous positive airway pressure therapy.
Major finding: Traumatic brain injury (odds ratio, 1.58; 95% confidence interval, 1.21-2.07), and Medicaid eligibility (OR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.24-1.75) were independently associated with lower continuous positive airway pressure adherence.
Study details: An analysis of Medicare administrative data involving 3,229 beneficiaries with obstructive sleep apnea who received continuous positive airway pressure therapy between 2009 and 2011.
