Changes to the 2008 Recommended Immunization Schedules for Children, Adolescents

Changes to this year's updated immunization schedules mainly involve three vaccines.

The tetravalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine is now recommended for children aged 2–10 years who have an increased risk of the disease. In addition, MCV4 is now recommended for all 11- to 18-year-olds instead of select age groups.

Another change clarifies the catch-up schedule for pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in young children who have been incompletely immunized. The youngest age at which a child can receive the live, attenuated influenza vaccine has been dropped to 2 years.
