Hip Arthroscopy: A New Application of an Existing Technology
Mark J. Philippon, MD, and Peter D. McCann, MD
Peter D. McCann, MD, Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Orthopedics, and Mark J. Philippon, Program Chair of the Hip Program at the 2nd annual Emerging Techniques in Orthopedics in Las Vegas, discuss hip arthroscopy and the recent developments that have occurred in the field. "For the past 10 years, there has been an explosion in sports medicine," Dr. Philippon stated. "And I think that the key point here, is that we have a better understanding of that joint We have better diagnosis, primary care physicians in the field who make the diagnosis, but I think that most importantly, in the past when we did hip arthroscopy, we were able to see the lesion, and sometimes we were not able to address the full pathology, because we didn't have the right instrumentation, now we have flexible tools, better instrumentation, and also, most importantly we've developed the skill now to be very precise."
