HCV-infected patients in the ED should be tested for advanced liver fibrosis

Key clinical point: An easy test for advanced liver fibrosis, FIB-4, should be used in all HCV-infected patients admitted to the ED.

Major finding: All-cause mortality for patients with advanced fibrosis was significantly higher than for those without (18.4% vs. 4.0%, P = .030).

Study details: Retrospective analysis of 113 HIV-infected patients admitted to the ED of a single institution.
