M. Alexander Otto began his reporting career covering the pharmaceutical industry for a national pharmacists' magazine and freelancing for the Washington Post and other newspapers. He then joined BNA, now a part of Bloomberg News, covering health law and the protection of people and animals in medical research. Alex next worked for the McClatchy Company, a major newspaper chain. Based on his work, Alex won a year-long Knight Science Journalism Fellowship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2008-09. He joined Frontline shortly thereafter. Alex has a newspaper journalism degree from Syracuse University and a master's degree in medical science -- a physician assistant degree -- from George Washington University. She first joined the Southeast bureau in 1996 after working as a daily newspaper reporter covering government and health, and spent the next 13 years covering medical research and continuing medical education meetings across the country and around the world. She rejoined the company in 2015 after a 5-year stint as a freelance reporter and writer. Mitchel L. Zoler joined the company’s Philadelphia bureau in 1992 and since then has covered more than 300 medical research meetings around the world. Previously, he covered medicine and science for publications including Medical World News, Cardiology Times, Urology Times, Hospital Practice, and Science Digest. A fellowship through the American Association for the Advancement of Science landed him at Newsweek early in his career. Mitchel has a Ph.D. in microbiology and did post-doc work in virology.
