Intensive BP Control Reduced Dementia but Increased Brain Atrophy and Hurt Cognition

Key clinical point: Intensive blood pressure control reduced dementia relative to standard care, but the benefit also brought risks.

Major finding: The intensively treated group had significantly more brain atrophy, losing a median of 30.6 cm3, compared with a loss of 26.9 cm3 in the standard treatment group.

Study details: Three subanalyses of the SPRINT MIND study.
