Improving CV Health in Women Through Provider Collaboration

Circulation; ePub 2018 May 10; Brown, et al

Coordinated healthcare delivery among cardiologists and obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYNs) may allow a better assessment of patient needs and improve outcomes by minimizing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This according to a recent presidential advisory from the American Heart Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AHA/ACOG) that offers recommendations for promoting risk identification and reduction of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women through collaboration between cardiologists and OB/GYNs. Among the conclusions and recommendations offered:

  • Healthy lifestyles and behaviors should be a point of emphasis in the care of all women.
  • Screening for CVD and CV risk factors in women should be enhanced.
  • Providers and healthcare systems should leverage technology to improve the CV health of women.
  • OB/GYN and cardiology providers can improve the CV health of women through enhanced collaboration between healthcare providers.
