High-intensity exercise builds bone in older men
Key clinical point: The weightlifting and jumping program built or maintained bone in several measures, compared with isometric exercise and controls.
Major finding: The intervention improved medial femoral neck cortical thickness (5.6%), compared with isometric exercise (0.7%) and controls (–0.1%).
Study details: LIFTMOR-M, a randomized, controlled trial in 93 older men with osteopenia or osteoporosis.
