Socioeconomic factors affect survival of multiple myeloma patients

Key clinical point: Socioeconomic factors play a significant role in creating survival disparities among multiple myeloma patients.

Major finding: Advanced age, earlier year of diagnosis, lack of insurance or Medicaid, and higher comorbidity were found to be associated with poor survival (hazard ratio >1).

Study details: A retrospective database analysis of characteristics and first-line treatment of more than 50,000 multiple myeloma patients.
