Baseline dementia predicts poor oral health
Key clinical point: Adults with caregiver-reported dementia had significantly higher numbers of retained roots, a sign of poor dental health, compared to those without dementia
Major finding: Dementia reported by caregivers was significantly associated with a change in dental health over time among older adults who had home dental visits, based on a change in the number of retained roots (P < .05).
Study details: The data come from a retrospective cohort study of 201 adults who received at-home dental visits covered by insurance over a period of at least 2 years.
Disclosures: The study received no outside funding. The researchers had no financial conflicts to disclose.
