Researchers evaluate gynecology-specific laparoscopic simulator

Key clinical point: Students appear to have similar confidence levels during a simulated laparoscopic suturing task regardless of which simulator they train on.

Major finding: Confidence levels on peg transfer (4.13 with Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecology [EMIG] vs. 4.10 with Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery [FLS]), intracorporeal knot tying (3.0 with EMIG vs. 2.86 with FLS) and vaginal cuff suturing (2.46 with EMIG vs. 2.05 with FLS) tasks were similar for both groups. Participants who trained on EMIG, the gynecology-specific simulator, reported higher confidence scores, but differences between the groups were not statistically significant.

Study details: A randomized controlled trial that included 45 students.

Disclosures: The researchers had no relevant financial disclosures.
