Online Course for Substance Abuse Tx
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration offers “Acamprosate: A New Medication for Alcohol Use Disorders,” an online continuing education course for substance abuse treatment professionals. The course is self-paced and interactive, and includes a test. Counselors who complete it receive one NAADAC-approved continuing education unit at no cost. Other courses are in development. Jail Diversion Program Grants
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is accepting applications for fiscal year 2008 Jail Diversion and Trauma Recovery Program grants. The program helps trauma-integrated jail diversion programs to reach individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder and trauma-related disorders involved in the justice system, with priority for veterans. Video Guide: Helping Heavy Drinkers
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has released “Video Cases: Helping Patients Who Drink Too Much.” This course demonstrates strategies that can be used to screen patients for heavy drinking and help them cut down or quit.
