Adult Atopic Dermatitis Brings Increased Osteoporosis Risk

Key clinical point: Adult atopic dermatitis patients who use potent or superpotent topical corticosteroids face significantly increased risks of osteoporosis and major osteoporotic fractures.

Major finding: Danish adults with atopic dermatitis who never used systemic corticosteroids had risks of osteoporosis and major osteoporotic fractures that were 82% and 14% greater than in matched controls.

Study details: This was a retrospective case-control study of 10,636 Danish adults with atopic dermatitis and 87,989 matched controls.
