A 20-year-old woman presents with shortness of breath. Her height is 5 ft 4 in and weight is 120 lb (BMI, 20.6). She was diagnosed with asthma as a child and her respiratory symptoms have historically been difficult to manage despite adherence to treatment; 7 months ago, she was started on a regimen of high-dose inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and a fast-acting bronchodilator. She does not have a history of allergies that she knows of. She takes pantoprazole for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Skin is of normal appearance on physical examination. Blood eosinophil count is 158 cells/μL and sputum eosinophils are 3.1%.
