Target plantar keratoderma when managing ‘mild’ EBS
Key clinical point: Hardened feet are a major determinant of the clinical course of epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) and should be a clinical target.
Major finding: Plantar keratoderma affected the majority (75.8%) of patients with EBS and led to a vicious cycle of pain, excessive weight gain, local infections, and limited mobility.
Study details: A retrospective cohort study of 157 patients with EBS; a study of nine patients with EBS evaluating the benefits of rocker bottom footwear on plantar blistering; an audit of 90 patients who attended a U.K. EBS clinic over an 11-month period looking at body weight and mobility.
Disclosures: No conflicts of interest were declared by any of the speakers.
