The National Institute of Mental Health offers a brief yet comprehensive e-brochure to teach patients the basics of depression. “Depression” is available at http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/depression/depression-booklet_34625.pdf. It explains the differences between various depressive disorders, discusses depression diagnosis and treatment, and offers suggestions on how to help a friend or loved one who is depressed.
