Cochrane Evaluates Survivorship Programs for BC

Cochrane; 2017 Aug 24; Cheng KKin Fong, et al

Home-based multidimensional survivorship programs appear to improve both cancer-specific and global quality of life in breast cancer survivors, according to a Cochrane review of 26 studies involving 2,272 individuals. Additionally, home-based multidimensional survivorship programs can reduce anxiety, fatigue, and insomnia. Among the findings:

  • Home-based multidimensional survivorship programs appear to improve quality of life in the short term.
  • They also reduce fatigue, insomnia, and anxiety in the short term.
  • They do not reduce symptoms of depression, flushes, and night sweats when compared with usual care or alternative interventions.
  • Group-based programs seem to work better than those geared toward individuals.
  • There are no differences in quality of life with educational, psychological, or physical components of survivorship programs.
