VTE, sepsis risk increased among COVID-19 patients with cancer
Key clinical point: Cancer was associated with a higher risk of venous thromboembolism and sepsis, but not a higher risk of mortality, in COVID-19 patients.
Major finding: The adjusted odds ratios for acute venous thromboembolism, sepsis, and mortality for cancer vs. noncancer COVID-19 patients were 1.77, 1.34, and 1.02, respectively.
Study details: A registry study of 5,556 patients with COVID-19 treated at Mount Sinai Health System in New York.
