Robotic renal surgery bests open partial nephrectomy

Key clinical point: Complications were less common with robot-assisted partial nephrectomy than with open partial nephrectomy in patients with renal cancer.

Major finding: The overall rate of complications was 18% with robot-assisted surgery and 33% with open surgery (P < .001)

Study details: Prospective study of 3,468 patients with stage I/II (cT1-2, cN0, cM0) renal cancer.
