Study finds inconsistent links with aspirin, nonaspirin NSAIDs and reduced skin cancer risk
Key clinical point: Consistent use of aspirin or nonaspirin NSAIDs was not associated with a reduced risk of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).
Major finding: Frequent NSAID use in the high-risk group was modestly associated with reduced risk of BCC (hazard ratio, 0.84); there was no association with SCC risk.
Study details: An analysis of data from 34,630 residents of Queensland, Australia, who were part of the QSkin Sun and Health Study.
Disclosures: The QSkin Study was funded by a grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC). Two of the authors are also supported by research fellowships from the NHMRC. The authors declared no conflicts of interest.
