Survey Shows PCI Use Has Declined in ES-SCLC

Key clinical point: A survey of radiation oncologists showed a decline in the use of prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) for patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC).

Major finding: 72% of respondents regularly offered PCI to patients before the publication of the phase 3 study by Takahashi et al., while only 44% do so currently (difference, 28%; P less than .001).

Study details: A nationwide survey of 487 US-based radiation oncologists.
