Cachexia affects more than half of lupus patients

Key clinical point: Systemic lupus erythematosus patients who developed intermittent cachexia had the highest risk of organ damage after 5 years.

Major finding: Among adults with systemic lupus erythematosus, 56% developed cachexia within 5 years of entering the study.

Study details: The data come from a prospective study of 2,452 SLE patients older than 18 years.
