Sarcoidosis may raise long-term risk of heart failure and death

Key clinical point: The risk of heart failure and other adverse cardiac outcomes was increased in Danish patients with sarcoidosis, compared with the general population.

Major finding: The absolute 10-year risk of heart failure was 3.18% (95% CI, 2.83%-3.57%) for sarcoidosis patients and 1.72% (95% CI, 1.58%-1.86%) for their matched controls.

Study details: A nationwide analysis of Danish patients diagnosed with sarcoidosis from 1996 to 2016.
