L-thyroxine no help for older patients with symptomatic SCH

Key clinical point: L-thyroxine treatment did not improve symptoms in patients aged 65 and older with subclinical hypothyroidism, compared with placebo.

Major finding: Even in subgroups of more symptomatic patients with SHT, L-thyroxine was no better than placebo at 1 year.

Study details: A post hoc analysis of 638 trial subjects with SHT randomized to placebo or L-thyroxine and followed 1 year.
