Outcomes of Hip Arthroscopic Surgery
Am J Sports Med; ePub 2016 Apr 4; Chandrasekaran, et al
Patients with Tönnis grade 1 osteoarthritis (OA) had improved outcomes after hip arthroscopic surgery, with no significant differences vs a matched control group of patients with Tönnis grade 0 OA. This according to a study of 892 patients who underwent hip arthroscopic surgery, including 738 with Tönnis grade 0 and 154 with Tönnis grade 1.
After a minimum of 2 years of follow-up, a matched subgroup of 93 patients with Tönnis grade 0 and 93 with Tönnis grade 1 had no significant differences between groups in scores for patient-reported outcomes or visual analog scale (VAS), or in rates of revision arthroscopic surgery or conversion to total hip arthroplasty, as shown below:
Item | Tönnis grade 0 | Tönnis grade 1 |
Modified Harris Hip Score | +15.51 | +19.52 |
Nonarthritic Hip Score | +20.65 | +20.96 |
Hip Outcome Score–Activities of Daily Living | +16.83 | +18.20 |
Hip Outcome Score–Sport-Specific Subscale | +20.91 | +21.61 |
VAS Score | -2.82 | -2.84 |
Revision Arthroscopic Surgery Rate | 9.68% | 5.38% |
Conversion to Total Hip Arthroplasty Rate | 9.68% | 11.83% |
