MMS Linked With Better Survival in Early-Stage Melanoma

Key clinical point: A retrospective study suggests Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) may be a viable alternative to wide margin excision (WME) in selected patients with early-stage invasive melanoma.

Major finding: MMS was associated with moderately better overall survival, compared with WME, after adjustment for clinical and tumor-specific variables (hazard ratio, 0.86).

Study details: A retrospective analysis of 70,319 patients with stage I melanoma who underwent WME or MMS.

Disclosures: No funding sources were reported. The authors reported having no conflicts of interest.
