Pelvic insufficiency fractures are common after chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer

Key clinical point: Radiation therapy for cervical cancer resulted in pelvic insufficiency fractures more frequently than previously thought, and many fractures were slow to heal.

Major finding: The prevalence of pelvic insufficiency fractures among women who had MRI follow-up after radiotherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer was 38%.

Study details: A retrospective study of 115 women with locally advanced cervical cancer who were treated with radical or adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy over a 5-year period.
