Study finds no link between platelet count, surgery bleed risk in cirrhosis

Key clinical point: Severe thrombocytopenia did not predispose cirrhosis patients to major perioperative bleeding.

Major finding: Major bleeding occurred in 10.8%, 10.2%, and 8.1% of patients with platelet counts of greater than 100 × 109/L, 50-100 × 109/L, and less than 50 × 109/L

Study details: A retrospective cohort study of 996 patients.
