Fear drives activity changes in hemophilia patients
Key clinical point: Hemophilia patients were sometimes more likely to adjust physical activities based on fear of experiencing an event, as opposed to previously experiencing that event.
Major finding: More patients adjusted their activities because of fear of joint damage (44%) than past significant joint damage (36%), and more patients adjusted activities because of fear of breakthrough bleeds (41%) than past experience with bleeds (36%).
Study details: A survey of 194 patients with moderate or severe hemophilia A and 81 caregivers
Disclosures: The HemACTIVE study was supported by Bayer. Mr. Skinner disclosed relationships with Bayer and a variety of other pharmaceutical companies.
