Early Screening, Intervention May Reduce Depression in Early Pregnancy
Key clinical point: Mental disorders are common among pregnant women, and understanding the nature of those conditions might help form maternal health care policies.
Major finding: Overall, the prevalence of prenatal stress, anxiety, and depression were 92%, 15%, and 5%, respectively. Risk factors for prenatal stress included unemployment and low social support. Exercise proved protective.
Study details: The data come from a cohort study of 1,220 pregnant women at fewer than 15 weeks gestation in the Chongqing region of China.
