Key clinical point: The presence of fibromyalgia in depressed patients was associated with significant increases in depressive symptoms, more cognitive rigidity, and lower levels of cognitive differentiation, compared with patients without fibromyalgia.

Major finding: Depressed patients who also had fibromyalgia had significantly higher scores on the Beck’s Depression Inventory than those without fibromyalgia (mean scores of 40.74 and 36.16, respectively).

Study details: The data come from a study of 62 adults with depression; 31 had comorbid fibromyalgia.
