Psychotic-like Symptoms in Adult Offspring

Is older parental age a risk factor?

Older paternal, but not maternal, age at birth was associated with psychotic-like symptoms in adult offspring, according to an analysis of 924 survey respondents who self-reported on six psychotic-like symptoms, including seeing a vision others could not see and hearing voices others could not hear. Other key findings include:

• Approximately 9% of respondents reported at least one psychotic-like symptom.

• Paternal age was significantly associated with experiencing psychotic-like symptoms.

• There was no relationship between maternal age and psychotic-like symptoms.
