Vaccine-preventable infection risk high for pediatric hematopoietic cell transplantation recipients

Key clinical point: Efforts to optimize vaccination strategies early post hematopoietic cell transplantation are warranted to decrease vaccine-preventable infections.

Major finding: The influenza infections occurred median 231 days post-HCT; varicella infections occurred a median 190 days; and invasive pneumococcal infections occurred a median 311 days post-HCT.

Study details: Evaluation of the prevalence and epidemiology of 1,351 pediatric vaccine-preventable infections-associated hospitalizations occurring within 5 years post hematopoietic cell transplantation.

Disclosures: Dr. Dana Danino had nothing to disclose.
