Key clinical point: Antenatal corticosteroids and magnesium sulfate together are associated with better outcomes in extremely preterm children.

Major finding: Children exposed to both corticosteroids and magnesium had 27% reduced risk of severe neurodevelopmental impairment or death, compared with those exposed to only corticosteroids (adjusted odds ratio, 0.73).

Study details: The findings are based on analysis of prospective observational data during 2011-2014 of 3,093 extremely preterm children (22-26 weeks).
