Study Finds Link Between Insecticide Use and NHL Risk
Key clinical point: A pooled analysis found an association between use of the insecticide malathion and risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
Major finding: Across the four studies, use of malathion was associated with a greater risk of NHL overall (odds ratio, 1.43, 95% CI: 1.14-1.81), compared with never users. Similarly, the odds ratio was 1.61 (95% CI: 1.16-2.22) for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
Study details: A combined analysis of four studies evaluating associations between insecticide use and NHL among 1,690 cases and 5,131 control subjects.
Disclosures: The study was funded by the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute and the National Institutes of Health. The authors reported having no conflicts of interest.
