Cancer Patients Increasingly Being Discharged to Subacute Rehabilitation Facilities
Key clinical point: Cancer patients are being referred to subacute rehabilitation (SAR) facilities at an increasing rate, despite few surviving long enough to be treated with emerging immunotherapies.
Major finding: Of the 358 patients discharged to SAR facilities, 174 (49%) returned to the oncology clinic before readmission or death and 117 (33%) received additional cancer-directed treatment.
Study details: An electronic chart review of 358 patients who were discharged to SAR facilities from 2009 to 2017.
