Use Structured Interview to Diagnose Depressive Disorder in Lung Cancer

Key clinical point: About 50% of lung cancer patients demonstrated psychiatric morbidity during an initial pretreatment period. Using a standard structured interview is critical for diagnosing depressive disorder early.

Major finding: The most common psychiatric diagnosis was depressive disorder (25%), followed by adjustment disorder (17%), alcohol use disorder (3.8%), and insomnia disorder (3.8%).

Study details: The data come from a cross-sectional study of 104 adults with lung cancer. Patients were assessed using several measures, including the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview.
