Early palliative care fails to improve QOL in advanced heart failure

Key clinical point: Improvements in quality of life and mood were not significant in patients with advanced heart failure who underwent 16 weeks of a palliative care intervention.

Major finding: After 16 weeks, the mean (SE) KCCQ score improved 3.9 (1.3) points in the intervention group compared to 2.3 (1.2) points in the usual care group (SE, 1.7; d = 0.07 [95% CI, -0.09 to 0.24]).

Study details: A randomized clinical trial of 415 patients aged 50 years or older with advanced heart failure.
