Major finding: There was no difference in pancreatic beta-cell function as measured by meal-stimulated C-peptide levels.

Study details: A 1-year prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 97 children with type 1 diabetes.

Disclosures: The University of Alabama at Birmingham sponsored the study. Collaborators included Diamyd, NOW Foods, Janssen, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Dr. McCormick did not have any disclosures.
