Recurrent intussusception rare in young children

Key clinical point: Recurrent intussusception after discharge may be substantially less common than previously reported.

Major finding: Readmission for recurrent intussusception was required for 4% of patients managed with nonoperative reduction alone, 2% of patients who underwent surgical reduction, and none of those who underwent bowel resection.

Study details: A retrospective analysis of 8,289 young children who were diagnosed with ileocolic intussusception during an index admission.
