First-time Fathers at Risk of Postnatal Depressive Symptoms

Key clinical point: New fathers often experience depressive symptoms in the months after childbirth, especially if key risk factors are present.

Major finding: The prevalence of paternal depressive symptoms was 13.76% (95% CI, 10.70-16.82) at 2 months and 13.60% (95% CI, 10.13-17.07) at 6 months.

Study details: A prospective cohort study of 622 Canadian men who completed sociodemographic and psychosocial questionnaires during the third trimester of their partner’s pregnancies.
